I figured that with all the talk about netbooks that's been going on, I should post this. If you're looking for a really cheap ($200) netbook, it's arrived. It's designed to run off standard AA batteries and comes with either Windows XP or Linux installed. It's called the Gecko Edubook and was introduced last year. A full description with technical specifications can be found here.

This machine is very customisable, and not only does it support a wide variety of Linux distributions, but according to a post on the Enhanced DR-DOS forum, Northtec specifically has made DOS drivers and tools available for it.

"DOS NDIS Driver
* Novell Netware Login Script
* Ethernet Packet Driver
* DMP DOS SPI flash disk tool, for external SPI Flash.
* DMP DOS Socket Library
* DMP Serial Port Library"

According to the same source, the Xcore chips have the ability to change speed under DOS and Linux as well. The thing I don't understand is the serial port library, since there are no serial ports on the machine. If there were, I'd probably buy it.
